Clinical care models designed to treat older patients at home are gaining traction as research evidence is showing how these disruptive approaches to healthcare can lower total cost of care and provide better quality of care for their patients. The West Health Institute in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement developed the Home-based Acute Care Getting Started Guide as part of our 2019-2021 collaboration. This is a resource that guides the process for designing and implementing home-based clinical and operational acute care models for older adults. It is designed for organizations in the early stages of program development. Thirteen healthcare organizations from across the country, all of whom were taking on financial risk, participated in the Home-based Acute Care Learning and Action Network (HomeLAN). These teams collaborated to find effective ways to serve older adults and make care more efficient and affordable through brainstorming sessions, peer to peer learning and rapid cycle PDSA tests of change.

HealTAC 2022 is the fifth annual UK healthcare text analytics conference. The conference dates are 15-16th of June 2022. As in previous years, HealTAC 2022 will bring the academic, clinical, industrial and patient communities together to discuss the current state of the art in processing healthcare free text and share experience, results and challenges. The call for contributions will be issued shortly, and will include short and long papers, posters, PhD papers, demos and panel discussions. We are delighted to announce HealTAC 2022, the fifth annual UK healthcare text analytics conference. The main conference will be a two-day events on 15-16, June next year - please save the dates. Given the current uncertainties, all conference activities will be online as a default. However, if the circumstances change in the new year, we will consider running some activities face-to-face in Edinburgh.

We are pleased to announce the 18th European Congress on Digital Pathology (ECDP), to be held as an in person event 15-18th June 2022 in Berlin. Our goal is to have, again, the usual friendly and exciting interdisciplinary environment, with pathologists, computer scientists, biologists, technicians, students, and last but not least, clinicians, as well as industry partners, discussing the latest topics on digital and computational pathology. This year’s focus will be on the integration of histology, molecular pathology and clinical data through machine learning/artificial intelligence.

While the diagnosis of pathological alterations in tissues will continue in the future to be based on histomorphology, novel imaging techniques such as multiplex immunofluorescence or imaging mass spectrometry will gain influence in complementing conventional approaches. Moreover, novel molecular methods, such as, spatial transcriptomics or single-cell proteomics, offer new opportunities to combine histology with spatially-resolved deep molecular profiling. ESDIP’s mission is closely aligned with these developments, where computational pathology is key to analyzing and interpreting the resulting complex data. ESDIP is gaining new energy and is evolving fast to the benefit of its members, offering novel scientific, diagnostic and educational opportunities, increasing communication and ideas for innovative paths.

ince 2020, Barcelona Health Hub, Medical Association of Barcelona (CoMB), Esade BAN and Barcelona Activa, in collaboration with EIT Health, have been organizing the e-Health Investment Forum Barcelona: a unique and specific space for investment in digital health. It has been a great success so far: 88 applications received, 19 startup pitches and more than 1.300 participants from across the globe.

Every year, calls are launched to target entrepreneurs leading disruptive projects. After receiving startup applications, an evaluation panel composed of different experts from the health and investment sector shortlist the most promising startups. The selection process, based on the startup technology readiness level, its market opportunity and the team experience, offers investors a great quality deal flow opportunity.

This spring, the 3rd edition will be focused on disruptive digital solutions for chronic diseases. More specifically: software, algorithms and digital platforms for prevention, early diagnosis, improving health outcomes and patients management and monitoring of diseases with long duration and low progression that cannot be prevented by vaccines or cured by medication. Those projects could be developed in the areas of aging, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, immunology and respiratory. The event is aimed at projects with the potential to transform how healthcare is delivered, empowering healthcare professionals, improving the patient experience and healthcare output.

After the last two years we felt that returning to the theme of how projects, teams and businesses can deliver improved health and safety outcomes using digital processes was an important theme to revisit. The BIM 4 Health and Safety group will be presenting the guidance that they have created as part of a major project delivered by this UK BIM Alliance Community group. This information has now been added to the UK BIM Framework and helps teams identify and track health and safety risks digitally by ensuring the right questions are being asked by Organisations and Project teams. How do your teams ensure healthier and safer outcomes on sites? What can digital do to improve this?

Secondly we are thrilled to bring you a local initiative from Yorkshire-based SME contractor Sewell Construction who has been testing virtual reality tools for improved safety management in a joint project with Sheffield Hallam University. They will be sharing the benefits they have found from integrating virtual reality tools to existing processes that offer an immersive approach to logistics planning and the communication of safety risk. After last year's virtual meeting, we return to Titanic Belfast for our 10th anniversary meeting. In just a decade the Critical Care Reviews Meeting has grown from a small local evening event to a major international three day conference. It has become the meeting to present and discuss the latest critical care trials. We host major trial results, often in association with synchronised major journal publications, review the best critical care trials of the previous year and explore aspects of trials methodology, interpretation, and publishing. Our unique long form format allows trialists the time to explain the nuances of their studies in detail, gives experts the opportunity to comment and converse with the trials team, and affords delegates the chance to ask questions, chat with the faculty during breaks, and determine whether these trials should change their practice. We also have the annual honorary John Hinds Trauma Lecture, and finish the meeting with the incredibly popular "Informal Chat", where the faculty and delegates congregate in the bar and an enormous, meandering discussion about all things critical care takes place.

The Critical Care Reviews Meeting is a truly unique event, where our aim is to share science rather than make money. For those who can't make it, we will be livestreaming the event for free.
