Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Phlebotomists
Phlebotomists collect blood samples from blood donors or patients and then prepare samples for testing in a clinical laboratory. Phlebotomists withdraw blood samples from the patient’s veins through a process called venipuncture and ensure that all the types of equipment used for withdrawing blood samples are properly sterilized. Phlebotomists can also use skin puncture for withdrawing the blood samples. This is usually done in case of determining blood sugar levels and determining blood group types.
