Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Fire Inspectors and Investigators

Fire inspectors and investigators are responsible for ensuring that buildings, including healthcare facilities, comply with fire safety codes and regulations. They may also investigate the cause of fires that occur in healthcare facilities.

Fire inspectors conduct inspections of healthcare facilities to identify potential fire hazards and to ensure that the facilities have appropriate fire prevention and suppression systems in place. They may also review the facility’s emergency evacuation plans and conduct drills to ensure that the plans are effective. They may also provide education and training to facility staff on fire safety procedures. If a fire inspection identifies any deficiencies, the fire inspector may work with the facility to develop a plan to address and correct those issues.

Fire investigators, on the other hand, are responsible for determining the cause of fires that occur in healthcare facilities. They may collect and analyze evidence, interview witnesses, and review documents to determine the origin and cause of a fire. They may also work with law enforcement and other authorities to investigate fires that are suspected to be the result of criminal activity.
