Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Animal Control Workers

Animal control workers are individuals who are responsible for enforcing laws and regulations related to animal welfare and control. In the healthcare industry, animal control workers may work in facilities such as animal shelters, zoos, and wildlife rehabilitation centers, where they may be responsible for ensuring that animals are treated humanely and that facilities are in compliance with relevant regulations. They may also work in hospitals or other healthcare facilities, where they may be responsible for controlling the presence of animals on the premises, such as by enforcing policies related to service animals or ensuring that animals are not brought into restricted areas. Animal control workers in the healthcare industry may be responsible for tasks such as enforcing animal-related laws and regulations, investigating animal cruelty cases, capturing and transporting stray or dangerous animals, and providing education and outreach to the community on animal-related issues. To become an animal control worker, individuals typically need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, and they may be required to complete on-the-job training or a formal education program. Some states may also require animal control workers to be licensed or certified.
