Molecular genetic pathology is concerned with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of genetic disorders. It is a subspecialty of medical genetic and pathology. Molecular genetic pathology or MGP helps in the diagnosis of genetic diseases by using all the technologies, theories, and principles of medical genetics and pathology. A molecular genetic pathologist has a vast knowledge of pathology and medical genetics due to which he is capable of providing information about structure of genes, genetic alterations, causes of genetic changes, etc. All this information is critical for diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of genetic disorders in individuals.
