Medigy: Alveolectomy

An alveolectomy is a surgical procedure in which a portion of the jawbone (alveolar bone) is removed. This procedure is commonly performed in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and is usually done to prepare the jaw for a dental implant or to correct a deformity.

There are different types of alveolectomy procedures, including:

Partial Alveolectomy: a portion of the jawbone is removed without disrupting the surrounding teeth

Full Alveolectomy: entire jawbone is removed, leaving the teeth and gums intact Segmental Alveolectomy: a section of the jawbone is removed, typically as part of a larger jaw reconstruction procedure.

The procedure is usually done under general or local anesthesia, and may be performed in an outpatient setting. Recovery from the surgery can take several weeks, and patients may experience swelling, pain, and discomfort during this time.

Alveolectomy is a highly specialized procedure, which must be performed by a trained and experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeon. This procedure also requires a detailed pre-operative assessment, including 3D imaging, to plan the procedure and ensure the best outcome.
