UPMC, Redesign Launch Perioperative Care Company to Help Surgical Patients
Pip Care, a new business that uses a consumer-facing app to assist patients in getting ready for and recovering from surgery, today unveiled a pilot programme at three UPMC hospitals. The previously announced cooperation between UPMC Enterprises and Redesign Health to construct, launch, and fund new health care enterprises has now produced its first business. At UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Presbyterian, and UPMC Horizon, there are three Centers for Perioperative Care (CPCs), where multidisciplinary teams assist high-risk patients in managing chronic disorders and modifying their lifestyles before surgery to enhance results. Approximately 10% of all surgical patients at UPMC who require inpatient stays are seen by the three CPCs collectively. Although expanding access to these services for more patients would be ideal, obstacles including lack of room, inadequate staffing, and patient accessibility.
