Biggest Challenges in Healthcare: Physician Burnout w/ Dr. Matthew Fradkin

Physician burnout has been a hot topic in healthcare as of late. In 2014, more than half of physicians in the U.S. had at least one symptom of professional burnout, and that number is expected to increase. A recent Leadership Survey by NEJM Catalyst found that 96% of healthcare executives, clinical leaders, and clinicians agree that this is a serious problem in the healthcare industry.

CIOs and other decision-makers are exhaustingly working to diagnose the core problem causing burnout, and are searching for solutions to alleviate the issue. However, there are so many controllable (and uncontrollable) factors to take into account.

We understand the complexity of the issue, but we had to ask ourselves: “Where are some areas we can start moving the needle to solve this issue today?”

In the first video of our Biggest Challenges in Healthcare series, our Chief Digital Innovation Officer, Aaron Martin, sat down with Dr. Matthew Fradkin, a pediatrician at Swedish Health to talk about physician burnout, and get his perspective on the ongoing issue. The two discussed what could be contributing to burnout, and touched on ways we can create digital solutions to ease physicians’ workloads:
