The Royal Society of Medicine is holding a new, topical afternoon event called "Erectile Dysfunction in Clinical Practice", on Thursday 16 January 2020.

Experts in the field will explore the medical, psychological causes and risk factors of erectile dysfunction, promoting an understanding of the effect of erectile dysfunction on a man’s health, discussing recent advances in management, and reflecting on the wellbeing of a couple’s relationship.

This unique, one-day training course combines live surgery of retroperitoneal robotic laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RRPN) procedures with intraoperative ultrasound and 3-D vascular imaging. The course is aimed at Consultants and senior urology trainees wishing to develop their expertise and improve surgical outcomes with their use of intraoperative Ultrasound and 3D imaging in RRPN.

Live audio-visual feeds from theatre will transmit the surgical cases directly to the seminar room with two way interaction.

By the end of tghe course, you will be able to:

• Develop your ultrasound technique and operative protocol
• Understand the value of preoperative surgical planning with Ultrasound, CT imaging, Doppler and 3D/ICG vascular mapping to determine the optimal approach for nephron sparing surgery
• Understand the techniques of real-time intraoperative ultrasound imaging of the kidney to identify an endophytic tumour or mark the margins of a tumour prior to resection

This event will take a detailed look at the history of mental health and psychiatry in British society between the years of 1960-2010, a hugely interesting and distinct period in the history of Britain.

This time period is characterised by increasing dominance of ideologies of social liberalism, free markets and practices of economic neoliberalism and globalisation - it also coincides with de-institutionalisation and community care in mental health.

The meeting will focus on what happened to public mental health services during this time. Public experiences of mental health issues will be examined, along with those who were affected - individuals, family, other informal carers, formal carers and mental health professionals within the broader social context.

Topics include:

• Review the social history of psychiatry and mental health during 1960-2010
• The mutual influence between psychiatry and social change during 1960-2010
• Investigate the experiences of mental health service users and their informal carers during 1960-2010, and relate this to professional and societal aspirations at the time
• To offer an opportunity to clinicians, historians, policymakers to reflect and enhance sensitivity to mental health service users and their informal carers' needs, experiences and preferences.
