NHS England’s new 2021 Ambitions for Palliative and End of Life Care set out the need for local organisations to develop integrated services that provide personalised end of life care. With Marie Curie’s 2021 End of Life Report finding that Covid-19 lead to an increase in deaths at home, community services have had to adapt and improve patient pathways and support to deliver effective palliative care to more people. Local services must now work in partnership to meet the needs of an increasing number of vulnerable people, ensuring that end of life care is accessible for those in hospital, care homes and in the community. Through joined-up working and developing staff teams to provide compassionate and personalised end of life care, the palliative care sector can continue to deliver exemplary support to all.
