Since the publication of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy in July 2019, there have been several changes to the patient safety landscape; the strategy has expanded to include the Incident Response Framework, Primary Care Networks and Managing Deterioration Safety Improvement programme, among others. While a lot of progress has been made in patient safety, recent surveys and publications indicate that there is still plenty of room for improvement. For example, the Government’s Call for Evidence in 2021 for the Women’s Health Strategy concluded that women’s voices are not being heard within the healthcare system, leading to poorer outcomes and avoidable errors. By engaging with best practice strategies in improving patient safety and reducing medical error, health professionals can continue to improve outcomes for all patients in the NHS.
