Advances in equipment and software are making XR accessible over the internet, enabling new forms of immersive telehealth.XR therapy is cost-efficient for a wide range of healthcare applications including inpatient recovery, wound care, surgery, physical and cognitive rehabilitation, medical training, patient education, and pain management. The unique immersiveness of XR makes it particularly appealing for mental health care.
The FDA has authorized more than 69 XR medical devices, including CognifiSense and RelieVRX for chronic pain. Companies like XRHealth and Virtually Better offer comprehensive XR mental health care and have negotiated coverage of services through health insurance networks.XR technologies offer unique enhancements for healthcare and are becoming increasingly accessible to consumers. Commercial options are available for clinical care, while new research is being conducted.
