It usually takes years to introduce and implement an innovation in health care. Changing behaviour, routines, and habits seems to be difficult, especially when the benefits are small or unclear. In contrast, Generative AI (Gen AI) has been introduced and is increasingly used in healthcare and other domains of society with enthusiasm, but with limited critical assessment. The movement has been characterised as hype. There is a need to bend the curve towards appropriate and intelligent use.
It emphasizes that AI should augment—not replace—clinical judgment, with general practitioners involved in development, continuous validation, and ethical implementation to ensure trust and effectiveness in real-world care settings.
