Adolescent obesity remains a pressing public health challenge, particularly among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. Artificial intelligence (AI) holds the promise for supporting students in managing daily health behaviors, but few existing studies used AI-based interventions in naturalistic settings such as schools.
An AI-powered chatbot in a school setting can engage middle school students in tracking and managing health behaviors like physical activity, screen time, diet, and sleep, showing feasibility and positive engagement signals. Although initial results showed some improvements (like reduced screen time), further adaptation is needed to strengthen its impact on broader health outcomes such as obesity prevention.
