In May 2025, Sam Altman compared AI to "magic intelligence in the cloud." Indeed, AI promises to rewrite the rules of healthcare delivery and research, yet most pilots aiming to improve the healthcare system stall long before they reach everyday clinical workflows.An April 2025 report by Bessemer Venture Partners suggested that only 30% of pilots reach production. The reason is rarely the performance of a model or algorithm. It's the incumbent position: the mix of people, spreadsheets and legacy vendors already doing the job. Unfortunately, many innovative healthcare technology companies, excited about the "magic intelligence in the cloud," overlook this key driver.The Bessemer report pointed out that 64% of healthcare executives are willing to co-create solutions, particularly those that show clear and attributable ROI.
If internal teams are building a model on their own, try to open a dialogue about what performance means to them (i.e., time savings, quality, productivity) and experiment with a version of your product that is contained to the discrete problem. This opens the door for you to do a head-to-head comparison of the internal model versus your solution. If you can address product performance in an objective manner, you will earn trust and demonstrate value in a new relationship.
