The demand for palliative care is rising due to population aging and increased chronic illness. However, access to timely palliative care remains limited, particularly for patients receiving home-based hospice care in rural areas. Digital health technologies present an opportunity to enhance care delivery and communication at home.
A digital home-based palliative care system (Hospice@Home) that integrates wearable biosignal monitoring, symptom reporting, and smart medication tracking shows early signs of usability and feasibility for patients with terminal illness and their caregivers. However, challenges like technology fatigue and preference for human contact must be addressed to improve adoption and effectiveness in real-world hospice care.
