Security Assertion Markup Language is one of the earliest and most widely adopted approaches to create portability, reusability and interoperability for digital identities, from the on-premises realm to web services-enabled environments.SAML-based single sign-on saves clinicians valuable time, reducing login fatigue while helping to maintain HIPAA compliance. Securing protected health information is a key aspect of patient trust, and in a complex security environment made more complicated by AI, that can be a challenge.By using SAML, healthcare organizations can streamline identity management, reduce password-related security risks and maintain stronger control over authentication policies across their IT environments.
SAML is an open standard written in XML and the foundation of single sign-on capabilities. It eliminates the need for users to sign in and out with unique credentials for every application they are provisioned to use, while maintaining security and control over access rights.A SAML authentication operates through a federated identity model. An IDP verifies a user’s identity and issues authentication tokens, while an SP grants access based on that verification.
