Before the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in healthcare, life expectancy predictions largely relied on manual interpretations of population and demographic health trends and statistical models. These prediction methods, while helpful, offered more generalized analysis, rather than personalized insights. The traditional model was typically followed by reactive care approaches, which involve addressing symptoms after they appear, rather than administering preventative care by delving into the root causes of health issues. The holistic approaches deployed prior to the emergence of health technology have value, but they did not offer the same level of precision that health technology can now provide for individualized predictions and personalized care. Because of this, healthcare professionals could miss opportunities for early intervention.
The introduction of AI and ML is transforming the healthcare landscape by offering data-driven, personalized tech solutions that can analyze complex datasets. Doctors can use AI to analyze genetic data, lifestyle choices and wearable metrics to identify health risks early, which enables a shift to proactive, preventive care that could help extend lifespans and improve one's overall quality of life.
