U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): Cybersecurity

Emerging technologies drive medical devices to be connected to other devices via the internet to enable features that improve healthcare and increase the provider’s ability to treat patients. These same benefits could also involve the risk of cybersecurity breaches. Like any other device, medical devices are also prone to security threats that impact the device’s effectiveness. The hospitals, manufacturers, and facilities need to work together to mitigate cybersecurity threats. Cybersecurity services offered by these organizations offer protection against different security related issues such as ransomware, malicious attacks, data breaches, etc. Only those devices are allowed to be marketed by the FDA, whose benefits to patients outweigh the risks.
