Standard Occupational Classification (SOC): Helpers--Extraction Workers

Extraction workers in healthcare facilities are responsible for removing hazardous materials, such as medical waste and hazardous chemicals, from the facility. They are trained to handle these materials safely and to dispose of them in accordance with all necessary regulations. Extraction workers in healthcare facilities may also be responsible for cleaning and decontaminating areas that have been contaminated by hazardous materials. They may use a variety of specialized equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and chemical decontamination solutions, to safely remove hazardous substances from the facility. In addition to their primary duties, extraction workers in healthcare facilities may also be responsible for maintaining and repairing their equipment, as well as keeping accurate records of all hazardous materials that are removed from the facility.
