Medigy: Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure performed by a periodontist or an oral surgeon, which involves reshaping the gum tissue and underlying bone to expose more of the tooth structure. This procedure is typically done to prepare a tooth for a dental crown, a bridge or a filling.

There are a few reasons why a person might require a crown lengthening procedure:

A tooth is decayed or broken and a crown is needed, but there is not enough tooth structure above the gum line to support it.

A person has a ““gummy”” smile, where the teeth appear too short and the gums are too prominent.

A person needs a bridge, but the teeth on either side of the gap are not long enough to support the bridge.

After the procedure, patients will have some discomfort and swelling, which can be controlled with over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs. A follow-up appointment with the periodontist or oral surgeon will be scheduled to monitor the healing process and to check on the progress of the patient.
