Ancillary services in a hospital are non-medical services that are provided to patients and their families to support their healthcare needs. These services can include but not limited to, laboratory services, radiology services, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and pharmacy services.
Laboratory services include the collection and analysis of blood, urine, and other bodily fluids to diagnose and monitor medical conditions. Radiology services include X-rays, CT scans, and MRI’s, used to diagnose and monitor medical conditions.
Respiratory therapy services include the treatment of respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) through the use of oxygen therapy, inhalation therapy, and other techniques. Physical therapy services include rehabilitation and exercise programs to help patients recover from injuries, surgeries, and other medical conditions.
Pharmacy services include the dispensing of medications to patients, as well as providing medication education and counseling.
Ancillary services in hospitals play a critical role in the healthcare delivery by providing the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic support for the treatment and recovery of patients. They work closely with the medical staff and other healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services.
