Putting New PACS Guidance to Use

Putting New PACS Guidance to Use

The National Institute of Standards and Technology recently released guidance to help healthcare providers better address the security risks posed by picture archiving and communication systems. Michael Holt, a contributor to the document, describes how to put the guidance to use.

"This guidance goes into all the components of the NIST framework and outlines different threat vectors and vulnerability and attack scenarios," he says.

In the interview, Holt discusses:

  • The large and complex attack surface of PACS that puts these systems and devices at risk;
  • How the guidance can help entities track their PACS security risk management and governance efforts;
  • Upcoming cybersecurity guidance material for the healthcare sector.

Holt is president and CEO of security vendor Virta Labs. He is also president and founder of Traverse Management Consulting.
